13th July - Eppalock Maxi 3 Hour - what a terrific event! Run in some of the finest orienteering terrain in Victoria and as well-set as Yarra Valley events always are, this was a terrific day out for those that ignored the weather in Melbourne and headed out to this Sunday Adventure Series event. To cater for beginner/intermediate orienteers, the course-setter Sheila Colls used hanging controls - and this was well received by everybody that took part. The Junior Squad provided hot soup and toasted sandwiches after the event, Eureka provided cakes and Yarra Valley ran a short and quick prize ceremony as everybody gathered around the campfires that they provided in the assembly area. 10th July - Toorourrong Reservoir event. Toorourrong Reservoir results now online. The newly mapped area adjacent to Toorourrong Reservoir provided excellent running for 70 people that took part in last Sunday's event - the new area offers a 400-500m wide strip of well defined spur/gully terrain approximately 3 Km in length. Of interest to those training newcomers is the presence of a fence + road along the Northern boundary of this area - this offers a straightforward exit strategy for inexperienced participants that might get confused in the terrain below. Thanks to everybody that came along to help - we were most grateful to folks like Sue and Stan who provided refreshments and to Judy who - although injured - came along and took charge of the finish table.
9th July 2008 - Maribyrnong Maxi results now online
29 June - Metro Maxi at Maribynong - thanks to everybody that took part in the Maribynong Maxi earlier today - and helped our fund-raising efforts for the Victorian Junior Squad. It was most unfortunate that the council chose to close the footbridge earlier this week - our apologies to those that were inconvenienced by this. Results now available here.
11 June - Highbury Hill - an excellent course this evening from first-time course-setters Bernie and Annie Holloway. Combined with the mild conditions that evening, this was a most enjoyable course - Bryan Ackerly reported later that the total distance for all controls was about 12 Km. Congratulations on terrific course-setting!
19 May - Power Walker disqualified for poor walking style - following in Ian Dodd's crusade against dodgy walking styles, the Monday Night folks agreed to disqualify Louise (aka Lou) for having two feet off the ground at the same time. Read the full story in the Event Report for this event.
