Report

Important - please click here and read Mark's tips and hints for next week's event

As As newcomers Jessica and Louise study their maps, Pat and Tina sidle closer to get an early peek at the evening's course

Highlights of this evening's event (I start work tomorrow - so brief report for now....come back later for the full report)

  • An evening of firsts!

    • First event for newcomers Louise and Jessica - with a terrific result - congratulations on an excellent run!

    • Peter Maloney arrives on time - and check out how well he scores when he does so. If this man ever learns to tell the time, we're all in trouble!

    • Keith finishes late without complaining about control placement. Prepared to take his medicine, he fessed up, admitted he had stuffed up and that it was all his own fault and he was man enough to take what was coming to him. (As it turns out, we don't have a finish time recorded for him ...so he got off scot free...see below)

  • Mark and Geoff saved by an Act of God? As they ran back towards the finish Mark and Geoff lamented how they had been over-zealous (in Mark's case) and momentarily confused (in Geoff's case) - and as a result they were expecting to be heavily penalised as a result of late points. Recognising that the Pope was in town and that scorer's work so hard they wondered if they could apply for a Papal Indulgence (sort of like a "Get out of Jail Free Card" for sins). Mark noted that:

    • By his watch, we hadn't started on time...and it must have been at least 7:05 before we got going.

    • I was the scorer for the evening - and I could do whatever I thought appropriate

    • That he scored on Wednesday evenings and would take a dim view of anybody that was rude enough to suggest that we were taking advantage of our privileged positions.

As things turned out, none of this was necessary (put down the feathers and tell Stan to turn off the burner underneath the tar) as - due to an unexpected software glitch that we've noticed once or twice before (the last time Mark and I were late) - the clock seems to have lost 2-3 minutes and started the event at 7:05...Mark was right all the time! Clever lad!

How late were we? My lips are sealed...

  • A terrific event in mild conditions - 1 dog and 34 people took part. Thanks to Ilze both for setting a good course and for the added interest provided by such a simple idea. Starting in their driveway with access to toilets, the added security available and tea/coffee/cake afterwards made the event event more enjoyable.
