Course-Setter - Pam KingHaving set a course on this map in the previous week, Pam decided that she would give it another go and set our first Monday Night training run for 2008 at the northern end of the same map. The weather was much better than we encountered on the Wednesday event - cool, but not excessively so, clear skies and good lighting for the first 30-40 minutes of the course). It was good to see that everybody came armed with torches - we may as well pull them out and dust them off as we'll certainly need them next week when daylight saving ends again. LED headlamps are now so cheap (about $8-10 from many stores) that one really wouldn't use anything else (apart from Barry of course - who rolled up with the trusty Dolphin torch - terrific illumination and if he ever does tumble into water by mistake, it'll keep him afloat until help arrives). First impressions were that the course was a tad long - although having associated with Ian Greenwood for many years, she's probably picked up that tendency from him. In spite of this, two runners - Bryan and Adam - did manage to get the lot - although only just (check out the finish times below). We don't normally check the numbers on the cards - but if anyone would like to see what the variation in pole numbers actually is please let me know and I'll bring the cards along on Wednesday. Don't get hung up about pole numbers too much - if you're like me you plan to write them down as you head off to the next control only to realise that you've forgotten the number. If you're happy to go back - that's fine. If not, just put a tick in the box and we'll count the score - although we may impose a slight surcharge if this becomes too prevalent. |

Welcome to Nick, Neale and Johanna who joined us for the first time on our
Monday Night run. It was suggested that we add an area in the event calendar
for dinner arrangements for each event - and I'm happy to do this (it's
there now). We'll publish this information on the
Monday Night Training Home Page from now on. An interesting idea from Pat Miller - was that some of the walkers are getting fitter and would like to run...but only a little. As you'll see in the scores below, I've placed her in between walkers and runners - in the "Aspiring Runners" class (please let me know if you can think of a better name for this class). Not wanting to see Pat in there alone, I told her I'd draw one other walker - at random - to keep her company. So...this week, Eric trounced her...bad luck Pat. |

Finally, we do need folks to log into the database and take charge of a
date, a map and a course - but only one of each.
If you haven't used it yet, why not check it out now at http://street.orienteering.com.au/training/login.asp |

What do you mean I have to run against Eric? |
There....that wasn't too bad...was it? |
