Bernie Shuttleworth organised a terrific score-course for us this evening - and even went to the trouble of arranging a refreshing shower about 10 minutes into the event. Thanks to BK for letting us use the Canterbury Trails map - we took the trouble of adjusting both the horizontal and vertical scales on this map, improving the contrast and correcting a few minor errors (which we'll pass back to Vic in the near future). Bernie had wanted to set a course on this map for a while as he lived on one edge of the map - and the training event was an ideal way to do this.

Items worthy of note this week included:

• Walking us across Warrigal Road at the start was certainly a good idea - as was showing us the first and last pair of controls at the North and South boundaries of the map (Bernie did well from a safety perspective - a stark contrast to Ian Greenwood's course last week where he went out of his way to get us all killed crossing Mountain Highway ;-) )
• Peter Maloney was there on time - apparently Louise had found him wandering about several suburbs away and he had tucked in behind her and followed her to the start location.
• Geoff assured us that the rain was "but a tiny speck on the Met Bureau's Rain Radar" - but we were suspicious when he insisted we all take plastic bags for maps and lectured us all on how to keep our score-cards dry.
• Lots of aches and pains, moans and groans from those that had taken part in the 15/24 hour rogaine over the weekend. In spite of this, Brice still managed to get all controls - an excellent effort!
• An interesting course - but it seemed to me that the Western controls were way too far out for my liking - as it turned out, number 18 was probably reachable....but when you're 2-3Km out from the finish and time is running out it's often best to be conservative. One interesting characteristic of the course was that those that ran North were faced with the choice of 9 then 4 or 4 then 9.....with half the pack going either way. The end result was that runners criss-crossed continually for the next 20 minutes as their paths intersected again and again.
• Thanks to Pat for taking care of the finish table for us on arrival at the finish - it certainly made scoring easier to have everything recorded so well.
• Bernie provided hot drinks at the end - although I was bemused by the concept of a teapot - how very quaint (but the tea was excellent - thanks Bernie).
