"Off you go then" said Wally - and so started another excellent Monday Night Training Run. The format was a score event - but with 25 controls in a 10 Km course controls came up thick and fast, so you had to keep your wits about you.
What a great night for a run! Made all the more enjoyable by the attitude of the people taking part - quite relaxed and there to enjoy themselves. Even Bryce Petersen turned up - all the way from Hashwood - although he had had some trouble locating the event as he had assumed that the event was starting outside the Myers store incorrectly marked (in crayon) on his Melways. Apparently, he managed to persuade 5-6 others that this was the case and at 10 to 7, they were beginning to realise that all was not well. Fortunately, Fitz turned up (it seems he had persuaded Marta to drive him to StreetO) and pointed out that something as large as Myers would not be in a place as small as Mount Waverley shops and besides which.... the start location was probably over the other side of the car-park where Wally's van was parked.
Several people made a decision to leave controls out early on - and paid for this by either missing them completely or having to run back through the controls later in the event. As time progressed it seemed clear that even the slower runners could get them all - although the risk of being late proved too much and most left out one or two controls.
The atmosphere at the end of the run was superb - we waited for the walkers to finish - swapped tales of courageous feets with one another and thanked Wally for such a good night. The camaraderie on Monday Nights is all too obvious - everybody there is keen to help and with only two categories runner or walker, the administrative load is much lower than normal. The last person to leave the site this evening left at 8:13 pm.
